June Open Weekend and 175th Anniversary
June events
I am a little tardy in adding this note to the website but thought it still worthy of addition before we get into an announcement about our September Open Weekend.
It's also an ideal opportunity to let you know that we will be hosting a MacMillan Coffee Morning on Wednesday 25th September, following our inaugural event last year, at which we raised £700 for this very worthwhile charity.
June 2024
The final weeks of June were especially busy at TCPS. Firstly, we had the June Open Weekend, on 22nd and 23rd, and then, on the 29th, we had our 175th Anniversary celebration. The Open Weekend went well with almost 500 visitors attending. On Sunday 23rd we welcomed 33 motor cycles from the local Vintage Motor Cycle Club, as a trial attraction. The event proved to be successful in that the VMCC would like to return next year, hopefully with a few more bikes. The following Saturday (29th June) we held the 175th Anniversary celebration of the cutting of the first sod of turf for the construction of TCPS. The event was held to primarily thank our members and guests and our external supporters, without whom our society would not be able to function. Some 63 people attended, and after speeches from the leader of Darlington Borough Council, Steve Harker, and Chris Lloyd, of the Northern Echo, we were treated to a slice of celebration cake (thanks to Patsy, Liz and Ruth) and a glass of French bubbly (of indeterminate vintage!). The event was concluded with a cold buffet at the Baydale Beck.
